Handling external screenshots for Whimsical

Thousands of companies use Whimsical to collaborate on ideas faster. It is the unified workspace for thinking and collaboration.

We created our own hosted service using headless Chrome with a puppeteer based setup. There was effort involved in maintaining the cluster ourselves. We discovered a slew of security issues that meant we needed to write more of our own handler code.

We realised the safer option would be to let someone else handle external screenshots for us. I tested a couple of products. The thing it boiled down to was emojis. We believe in emojis being an integral part of modern communication, so having proper support for emojis was a necessity, not a luxury.

Urlbox's support of emojis was a big signal that it could replace our own service. It was a simple replacement - a real success story for us.
